About Us.

Founded in 1842, Albany is a small village located in the southwestern corner of Athens County, Ohio. With a population of just over 900, it is the 3rd largest village in the county. Just fifteen minutes from uptown Athens, Albany enjoys that small-town charm, a thriving business community, and is a place where the welcome mat is ALWAYS out!

The Greater Albany Area includes several points of interest including: Lake Snowden Park, Alexander Local Schools campus, and the Ohio University Gordon K. Bush Airport.

Economic Development is a key driver for the Albany Village Mayor and Village Council.

While the past few years have been spent creating the infrastructure needed to meet future growth such as sanitary-sewer and zoning, the Village is now focused on promoting our existing businesses while bringing new-to-the-area companies that will bring investment dollars, growth, local career opportunities and affordable housing for our future generations.

US Route 50, the Ohio University Gordon K. Bush Airport, available rail service and infrastructure are all important tools that will help us on this long journey.

Albany is currently working on park improvements, historical downtown development, and other ways to help our community maintain a family-friendly image.

Albany… A Great Place to Live!

Albany is a Zoned Community. Remember, you must contact the Village Administrator BEFORE building, altering, or changing any structure or use of a structure on your property. It’s not only the right thing to do, it’s the law! Thank-you

Comprehensive Plan

Thank-you to the Athens County Foundation for believing in us!

Comprehensive planning is an ordered process that determines community goals and aspirations in terms of community development. The end product is called a comprehensive plan. Albany has recently begun the long process to create and adopt a plan that will become a statement of future community goals, values, and objectives while providing a formal vision for the community.

Watch for future community meetings and updates!
