Where does my water come from?
Albany purchases water from the Le-Ax Water District. It enters the Village through the 211,000 gallon water tank located at the top of Alton Street where it is then distributed throughout the Village using our own network of pipes and valves. The average daily water usage for the village is around 55,000 gallons.
How do I know what to Flush or Not to Flush?
The only man-made product designed to go down the pot is toilet paper. Anything heavier than that should not be flushed. Baby wipes, diapers, make-up wipes, feminine hygiene products, and cleaning wipes should not be put in the toilet. They should be put in the trash.
Who repairs a broken water line?
The Public Works Department repairs village-owned water lines up to and including to the water meter. Property owners are responsible for making repairs to the owner’s service water line.
Can I pour my cooking grease down the drain?
NO! A leading cause of sewer blockages across the U.S. is the accumulation of grease in the sanitary sewers. That greasy waste enters the sewers through connections from homes, food service establishments, and industrial wastewater dischargers causing unnecessary maintenance costs associated with the blockages which are then passed along to all sewer rate payers.
Who operates the sanitary sewer system in Albany?
The Albany Sanitary Sewer System is operated by the Albany Public Works Department. The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is located at the end of East Clinton Street. There are 4 large lift stations in the system as well. A (not so) Fun Fact; The average electric bill for the WWTP is $3000.00 per month.
