Mayor

Mayor Kirkendall served six years on Village Council and was appointed as Mayor in September 2011. He has been elected to serve as Mayor every four years since!

The Mayor is the chief executive officer for the village. This is a non-partisan elected position voted on by the electorate every four years. Some of the mayors duties include; conducting council meetings, serving as an ex official member of all standing committee’s of council and serving as chief law enforcement official of the village. The Mayor does not vote on any issues before council except if the council is dead locked in a tie vote. When this happens the Mayor must cast the deciding vote. The Mayor is required at the beginning of each calendar year to report to council the State of the Village, Submit to council for approval the members of council who will serve on the council committee’s and name a chairperson for each committee. The Mayor is also a member of the Albany Planning Commission.

Village Administrator

The Village Administrator is an appointed position by the Mayor with confirmation of Council.The Administrator oversees the day-to-day operations of the Village and the employees associated with these functions, attends Council meetings, and takes part in discussions of matters coming before the Council. As the Department Head of the Public Works Department, they oversee the repair and improvement of streets, sidewalks, and public buildings. The Village Administrator also serves as the Village’s Building and Zoning Administrator. They enforce building and zoning codes and review all plans and make recommendations as needed.

Fiscal Officer

The Fiscal Officer is responsible for keeping the financial records and manages the finances and accounts of the Village. They help with the preparation of budgets and appropriations. They are responsible for financial reporting, budgetary reporting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Fiscal Officer also serves as the Tax Administrator and Mayor’s Court Clerk. The Fiscal Officer carries out the administrative functions of Village Council. They keep the Journal of Council, which is a precise and thorough record of all proceedings of Village Council.

Village Solicitor

The Village Solicitor is the Chief Legal Officer of the Village. They are responsible for representing the Village in all litigation, prosecutes violations charged under Village Code, including traffic violations and municipal criminal code violations, and also defends the Village and its officers if sued.

While some activities of the Village Solicitor directly affect the public, most Solicitor activities involve advice to the Village officials. The role of the Village Solicitor does not include providing advice to members of the public. It also does not include advising village citizens about the various rights individuals enjoy as members of the community.

Village Marshall

The Village Marshall is designated as the Chief of Police and serves as the executive head of the Albany Police Department under the Mayor. The Chief protects the lives and property of the citizens and businesses of the Village while providing professional, efficient, and organized police protection and community police-related services to the citizens of Albany. The Chief’s goal is to prevent crime and bring lawbreakers within our community to justice while being kind, courteous, and professional to all.

Police Patrol Officers

The Albany Police Department provides a wide range of law enforcement services to our community. They consistently work to keep order in the Village. Their mission includes protecting the lives and property of citizens and businesses.

Our Officers carry out patrol duties, respond to emergency calls, and other requests for service. Officers selectively enforce traffic laws and investigate reported criminal activity. They also join in several community events like the Albany Fair, the Fall Festival, and Christmas in the Village activities.

Utility-Office Clerk

The Utility-Office Clerk is responsible for water and sewer billing. They process payments received for those accounts while also providing administrative and clerical services. Additionally, they also serve as the receptionist for the Village.

Public Works Department Laborers

Albany Public Works Laborers are versatile and handle a variety of tasks to keep Albany looking great! They work to give effective and efficient public services to the Village and its residents. This includes landscaping, clean-up projects, general road maintenance and repair. They also handle monitoring and maintenance of water and sewer systems. In emergencies, they work on issues like water main breaks, sewer back-up, and snow removal. Other projects are managed as needed.
